Vagabonds Rugby Club empowers Isle of Man girls through collaborative rugby session.
Last Sunday (January 14), Vagabonds Rugby Club hosted an inaugural inter-club girls rugby session which united young talents from across the island.
Partnering with Ramsey RUFC and Western Vikings, the event garnered remarkable support, fostering the spirit of camaraderie in the rugby community.
Girls to the pitch
With over 17 enthusiastic players taking to the pitch, and members from Vagabonds Ladies, the island’s sole ladies team, leading the session, they showcased a vibrant display of tackling, rucking, and engaging rugby games.
The collaborative effort among the three clubs marked a significant milestone in promoting girls’ participation in the sport.
“Our aim is to cultivate a dedicated girls’ team for the Manx youth games and raise awareness about the exciting opportunities in girls’ rugby,”

“We extend our thanks to Ramsey RUFC and Western Vikings for their invaluable support in making this event a success,” added Sharon McCarrick.
Inspire youngsters
As the anticipation builds for the upcoming Women’s Six Nations and the recently announced Lions Tour for Women in 2027, Vagabonds Rugby Club hopes to inspire youngsters to embrace the sport across various island clubs offering girls’ rugby programs.
“We believe these events will serve as catalysts, encouraging girls to join the rugby community and contribute to the growth of the sport in the Isle of Man,” added Leona McGovern, Ladies Captain.
