A local processor of Manx meat has been forced to close it website down for a second time in just over a week, due to problems with meat supply.
Andreas Meats produce sausages, black puddings and whole host of other retailer and consumer prepared cuts of meat made from supplies of Isle of Man Meats.
But just six days after a similar supply problem, the company has once again had to close its website due to no pork or beef being delivered to them.
Over the Easter weekend Andreas Meats and other local butchers, including one that makes pet food, took to social media to vent their frustration at regular Isle of Man Meat Plant failures.
They accused the plant of lacking a skilled workforce and having ‘No Leadership’.
Dumped In Skip
The Government owned Isle of Man Meats has been plagued with problems.
In early January the company was forced to dispose of around 80 sides of beef that had gone mouldy.
The Company and DEFA refused to confirm the exact quantity or value of the lost stock. DEFA also refused to provide the information in a Freedom of Information Request.
The DEFA Minister declined our request for an interview.
There have been further quantities of meat also disposed off as IOM Meats announced a product recall from TESCO, also in January.
Earlier this week Manx.News has also seen evidence of more meat being dumped in to a skip at IOM Meats.
Andreas rules out import substitues
Meanwhile Andreas Meats ruled out using imported meat in their products. In a response to online questions, the firm said their whole business relies on supplies of “Manx meat where ever possible”. They went on to say they would have to rebrand and re label if they were to use imported meat.
The firm said that they will have a reduced range of products for the coming week.
