Want to be a firefighter? Go try it!

Isle of Man Fire and rescue service are inviting anyone who is considering a career in the service to ‘Come try it’.

Douglas fire station will be opening its doors to the public from 6:15pm to 8pm tonight (January 29) and later next week on February 8.

For those of you, like me, who may find it a little daunting, there is a female only option on February 6.

Try it

You will be able to find out what level of fitness you are at with the bleep test, wear a breathing apparatus (BA) set, learn the technique for hose running and have the opportunity to look at other tests such as the pump assembly.

It is well worth taking opportunity of these sessions, as all of these physical and practical tests are part of the assessment process for those applying to become Firefighters.

On-duty Firefighters will also be present to answer any questions you may have about the job itself, be it responding to incidents, the shift patterns, training or career opportunities.
