Tynwald week captured in new stamp collection

Renowned for his witty and perceptive documentary photography, Martin Parr brings his distinctive style to this unique stamp series, capturing the essence of Tynwald Week on the Isle of Man.

The eight stamp collection, ‘Tynwald Week – Photos by Martin Parr’, will be issued on June 29.

This collection features the exceptional photography of renowned contemporary photographer Martin Parr, offering a unique perspective into the cherished traditions and spirited celebrations of Tynwald Week on the Isle of Man.

Martin Parr is known and celebrated internationally for his witty and perceptive documentary photography spanning over five decades.

His ground breaking work has earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious CBE and now he brings his keen eye for human nature and societal dynamics to the forefront in this remarkable stamp series.

His distinctive style, characterised by vivid colours and candid portrayals, captures the essence of Tynwald Day and the surrounding festivities with authenticity.

Martin Parr CBE, said: “It was exciting to visit and take photos at the Tynwald ceremony.

“From the Beating the Retreat the evening before through to the last dance in the marquee, it was all go and many photo opportunities came my way. I love the idea of these being on stamps, and knowing many people will see these. That’s the democratic nature of photography, which I fully support”.
