As the Isle of Man begins to prepare for the 2024 TT races, the Isle of Man Constabulary have been meticulously planning to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable TT experience.
The Constabulary said it is ‘thankful to have had no fatalities on our ‘public’ roads during the periods of the Pre TT, TT, the Southern 100 and the Manx Grand Prix’.
Some people have been coming for many, many years, others for the first time but the Chief Constable’s message to you all simple and naturally the same, ‘know your limits’.
Chief Constable Russ Foster KPM added:
- Whether this is your riding capability, the capability of your motorcycle, familiarity with the roads and also when out socialising.
- Ride within your limits and be respectful to all other road users.
- Familiarise yourself with the twists and turns as well as the camber and adhesion of the road surfaces.
- Ensure your motorcycle is roadworthy and that appropriate tyres are fitted to your motorcycle.
- If you are socialising, understand and be respectful of the laws and legislation of the Isle of Man.
- Do not ride or drive whilst under the influence of drink or drugs as this will not be tolerated.
- Anyone exceeding the prescribed limits of drink or drugs will be arrested and placed before the next available court.
- During scheduled practice and race times when roads are closed please follow the directions of the event marshals and do not put yourself, other spectators or participants at risk by taking irresponsible chances.
Chief Constable message
His statement continues:
‘Reducing casualties on our roads remains one of our top priorities and during the event we will be focusing our road policing operations Island wide.
Those who drive or ride irresponsibly, without any consideration for other road users will be the focus of the operation and any law breakers will be dealt with robustly. We have both marked and unmarked vehicles proactively deployed for the duration of the motorsport events and we will be focusing our efforts around collision hotspots and targeting anyone who is not respecting our laws.
The Isle of Man Constabulary welcomes everyone to the Island and our officers will be out and about across the Island keeping you all safe.
Officers will be visible, accessible and responsive – you will find that our policing style for the duration of the motorsport period will be firm but fair. We will be engaging, we are approachable and please feel free to exchange pleasantries with my officers.
However we will be intolerant of crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour – you will find that we will intervene early and we will be robust with anyone breaking the law.
We will arrest, undertake a thorough investigation and place perpetrators before the court, before being able to leave the Island so please take heed of the advice.
All that said – we want you to thoroughly enjoy the events and the socialising that goes with it. I would encourage you to take the time to enjoy the the culture and hospitality of the Manx people, explore all parts of the Island and experience the sights and all the beauty that the Isle of Man has to offer.
It is truly a wonderful place and the safest Island in the British Isles and we want to keep it that way.
Finally, I want to wish everyone a safe journey to the Island, enjoy what we have to offer, enjoy the races, but most of all return home safely to family and friends.’
