Today will give us a bit of calm with a dry and sunny start before Storm Darragh begins to close in.
It will once again turn cloudy as persistent and often heavy rain spreads from the west during the afternoon, continuing through the evening and overnight, creating difficult driving conditions and a risk of localised flooding.
The moderate west or southwest wind will turn to the south or southeast and become strong to gale force by evening, with highs of 9°C.
Storm Darragh will then move across the island during Saturday (December 7), with the winds quickly increasing early morning to become severe gale force to storm force from the north or northwest.
Gusts will widely reach 60-70mph but with 70-80mph possible in more exposed spots, leading to a risk of damage and disruption to travel.
The rain will gradually clear to occasional showers later in the morning, with maximum temperature around 9°C, but feeling much colder in the northerly wind.
