The Steam Packet has provided an update on the current status of negotiations with Nautilus, along with a potential offer to withdraw its notice letters.
Representatives of the Company met with Manx Industrial Relations Service and Nautilus International on December 28 for an initial mediation meeting.
Following discussion
A spokesperson from the Steam Packet Company said:
“Following discussions with officers on board, the Company has agreed to continue to work with all parties on a proposal to resolve what it sees as the outstanding issues.
“As a result of the above the Company has indicated it will withdraw the notice letters sent in December, in exchange for Nautilus agreeing to repudiate industrial action with immediate effect.”

The Company says it is confident that following recent discussions “the issue can be resolved at this stage to the benefit of all parties”.
The next move
Follow up meetings are scheduled for January 15 and 16.
It added that: “If, after the meeting, there is no agreement the Company will go to arbitration through Manx Industrial Relations Service.”
Notice letters
At the time of the notice letters being served, Martyn Gray, the Nautilus Union’s Director of Organising said:
“This is a shocking escalation by Steam Packet Company.
“Isle of Man Steam Packet Company have, today, 22nd December 2023, served officers with notice of termination of employment as they refused to sign new, detrimental, contracts of employment.”
