As the regular closures of Ronaldsway Airport’s runways continue in to the new year, airport bosses are actively trying to recruit more Air Traffic Controllers.
Adverts have been placed in the hope vacancies can be filled so to alleviate the regular ATC staffing shortages which are causing chaos for airline and passengers.

Ronaldsway Airport ranked fourth worst for cancellations
Over the summer (2023), Ronaldsway was ranked fourth worst airport for cancellations according to UK CAA data.
It was a turbulent start to 2023 as problems with the upgrading of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) caused delays, diversions and cancellation in the first part of the year.

There has been much criticism of Ronaldsway Airport both by politicians and the public over the daily closures resulting in many delayed and sometimes cancelled flights.
Earlier this year there were widespread cancellations and diversions at Ronaldsway Airport due to issues with the Airport’s Instrument Landing System (ILS).
A “NOTAM” (Notice to Airmen) was published by National Air Traffic Services warning pilots that for the month of March, the ILS system on Runway 26 is currently ‘Unserviceable’.
At the time, the Airport told some passengers that flights were disrupted due to ‘visibility’ issues.
However a pilot told Energy FM News, that a fully functioning ILS would have likely enabled most, if not all the flights to have arrived safely.
Pilots warned that more disruption is highly likely without a fully functioning ILS.
