Her Majesty, Queen Camilla, has today (March 20) officially conferred the Borough of Douglas its City status.
The Queen arrived at Douglas Borough Council shortly before 12:40pm.
Her Majesty went inside Douglas City Hall and delivered a speech on behalf of His Majesty The King.
Following the meeting in the Hall, Her Majesty came outside with the Mayor of Douglas, Natalie Byron-Teare, and unveiled the plaque which recognised Douglas as a city.
After the unveiling Her Majesty walked around the large crowds of people and Manx flags that had gathered, and greeted many fans – some of which has brought the Queen flowers.
Her Majesty then went moved on to Government House where she was met by the Chief Minister, Alfred Cannan MHK.
The Queen proceeded to a marquee to meet community groups including representatives from the RNLI and the Manx Bluetits swimming club.
Douglas City
Douglas was granted City status in May 2022 as part of the celebrations for the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
Douglas has been the capital of the Isle of Man since 1896 and is home to the Manx Parliament, Tynwald, which is the oldest continuous parliament in the world.
It is also the birthplace of the RNLI which marks its bicentenary in 2024, 200 years after then Douglas resident, Sir William Hilary, witnessed several shipwrecks off the Manx coast and founded a national body to protect and save lives at sea.
