New Cattery is Just Purrrrrfect

Foxdale based animal charity, ManxSPCA has officially opened its highly anticipated new ‘purrrrfect’ cattery.

The old wooden cattery closed in March of this year, and thanks to funds the charity has raised, the new state of the art facility has opened.

We popped down to the official opening of the cattery and spoke to fundraising and PR officer, Krysia Boruch:

Each cattery pen has windows to the outside which can be opened on a sunny day so the moggys can enjoy a sunbathe.

They also have doors between pens, so if the charity has an influx of kittens, the baby meows can combine pen and plenty of “kitten parties” in a large space.

The older cats have steps up to their beds, as well as each pen having a heater for the colder nights, or if needed after a surgery.

The new cattery is basically a five star retreat for these cats until they find their forever homes.

Local artist Kathy Craig created a mural for the charity, which is on show behind the cattery.

The ManxSPCA takes in, on average, 1600 creatures each year and that number is, sadly, rising.

The staff and volunteers care for these lost, abandoned or injured creatures, restore them to health, bring back their confidence and rehabilitate them.

The charity has Kennels, a Cattery, a Small Animals Unit and Aviary as well as a seal pen so there’s plenty to see when you go and visit them.

When you’ve admired the animals you can relax with a cup of tea and a delicious home baked cake in the tearooms which are open every day except Mondays, from 10am until 4pm.
