Eight colleagues from Manx Care’s Integrated Mental Health Service have successfully achieved their Postgraduate Diploma Award in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): High Intensity Training.
Manx Care hopes these achievements will have a positive impact on waiting lists for psychological therapies going forward.
CBT is a talking therapy that can help people manage their problems by changing the way they think and behave, and is commonly used to treat depression and anxiety.

The “upskilling” of a number of colleagues was part of a Manx Care initiative to help overcome extremely difficult recruitment challenges through investment in its existing teams – in particular with trying to secure accredited therapists for both adults and children.
CBT has had one of the longest waiting lists for a number of years, but Manx Care is now bringing the waiting times down for this intervention, and for the service in general.
It also offers Occupational Therapy, Counselling and its Assistant Psychologists provide guided self-help for specific issues.
In April 2023 71% of people on the CBT waiting list had been waiting three months or more.
In April 2024 this has reduced to 50%. Manx Care’s target over the coming months is to reduce this to 25%, which would mean 75% of those referred starting therapy within therapy months of referral.
