DOI puts the Dhoon Glen kiosk out for tender

The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) on behalf of the Department of Environment, Food, and Agriculture (DEFA) invites ‘dynamic individuals and passionate food enthusiasts’ to submit expressions of interest for the tenancy of Dhoon Glen kiosk.

Little Shed at The Glen, the previous tenants, announced in January that they were not renewing the lease, saying “Not withstanding DEFA and DoI’s efforts, a rent increase along with lease terms, which we would find difficult to work with, has sealed the decision for us.”

The DOI claims the facility offers ‘captivating ambiance’ in a prime location.

It says it has ‘thriving potential’, with an estimated rental of £4,800 plus VAT per annum.

Those interested can propose their own ideal opening days, operating hours, and unique events to make Dhoon Kiosk Café.

Tender proposals

For those who are keen to be the next tenants, proposal should include:

• Proposed Rental in the region of £4,800 plus VAT per annum

• Proposed opening days and times

• Proposed events

• Sample menus with prices

• The number of staff to be employed

• Previous catering & events experience

The last tenant

The Little Shed has become another outlet to feel the pressure of costs in the hospitality sector, and has not renewed its lease at Dhoon Glen.

On January 14 the business took to social media to make the announcement.

It says it hasn’t “been immune from the spiralling costs our industry has faced”.

After operating from Dhoon Glen for three years the decision has been made.

It says its been “heartbreaking to see how badly this has affected hospitality businesses on the island” and that the decision has been a “head & heart dilemma”.

Adding to the social media post that its “not withstanding DEFA & DOIs efforts, a rent increase along with lease terms which we would find difficult to work with has sealed the decision for us”.

The business said: “We’ve enjoyed some amazing events, which we hope to continue in some guise or another at The Shed in 2024 and onwards, so keep an eye out.”
