The island’s planning committee has been advised to give KFC’s proposal to extends its opening hours the green light.
A planning officer has recommended that it be allowed to run its drive-thru 24/7, with restrictions on indoor seating.
One of the conditions proposed is that the restaurant part will have to close between midnight and 10:30am, to “prevent Anti-Social Behaviour during early morning periods”.
In its submission, the Police said: ‘There is concern that during Friday and Saturday nights into the early hours, the Police are already dealing with anti-social behaviour matters on Peel Road, Douglas and this may escalate, particularly if KFC will offer seated dining.”
KFC agreed to just operate a drive-thru during the night in order to satisfy these concerns.
The report says: “It is not considered these additional times would have any significant impacts to neighbouring properties or to the area to raise a concern, complying with Isle of Man Strategic Plan (adopted 2016) and The Area Plan for the East (2020).”
