Castletown Town Commissioners has applied to formally pedestrianise the town’s Market Square.

Usually done during the summer for big community events or live sport, this would extend the ban on vehicles all year round.

The authority’s application to the DoI say that doing this will create a “pedestrian friendly environment”.

Chairman Beth Cannan said: “I am pleased that this matter has finally been brought forward after receiving widespread attention in the press throughout 2023.

“We encourage all ratepayers and visitors to the Island to write to the department in response to their public advert and share their views on the proposal.

“We have also made progress with the Department regarding their Castletown Living Streets Scheme and the revision of our own off street parking orders which we expect to be published in draft form in the near future”.

Anyone wishing to make representations on or object to this proposal should do so by notice in writing to Department of Infrastructure, Highway Services, Regulations Team, Sea Terminal Building, Douglas, IM1 2RF on or before Friday 18 October 2024. Ref: PER161
