14 Storey Building Proposed for Lord Street

An application has been submitted for 14 storey mixed use development in the heart of Douglas.

Wyyttavin Ltd, based in Ramsey, has submitted the plans which can be found here.

The application would see a multiscreen cinema, office spaces, nine commercial units, a bus terminus including toilets and driver break area, parking and 85 apartments.

In the design statement for the plans, the company said: “Our key goal is to transform this fallow site by creating an architectural landmark of stature and elegance within a high-quality, sustainable, urban setting, for the benefit of Islanders and visitors alike.”

It added: “These proposals are created to specifically appeal to economically active people who want to make the centre of Douglas City the place they want to live, work and socialise.”

It has previously been confirmed that the scheme has been supported in principle for money from the Island Infrastructure Scheme.

In agreement with the Department of Infrastructure, there will be no requirement for affordable housing as part of the development, nor a commuted sum, given the significant investment being made into the new bus station facilities.

You can see how the buildings would fit into the existing area below:
